The Topeka Zoo celebrates World African Wild Dog Day on Saturday

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – Every dog has his day, someone once said, and that will be the case this Saturday at the Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center.

World African Boar Fern Day will be celebrated on Saturday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Topeka Zoo, near SW 6th Avenue and Gage Boulevard in Gage Park.

The special event is part of a celebration that will take place at zoos across the country and around the world.

African wild dogs, formerly known as African wild dogs, are among the most endangered carnivores on the African continent. Fewer than 7,000 of these animals survive in the wild.

“Listed as an endangered species, these amazing dogs have some of the most attractive color patterns in the wild,” said a press release from the Topeka Zoo. “They live in groups to assist each other in raising pups and hunting. They are the only known predatory dogs that work together to feed and protect injured members of their pack while they recover from their injuries.”

Special activities at Saturday’s event include:
