Colorado Department of Transportation Highway Traffic Alert Map showing eastbound delays and lane changes between Durango and Three Springs scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

La Plata County – On Tuesday, September 3, crews will conduct survey work along the eastbound lanes of US Highway 160 between Home Depot and the US Highway 550 exit. Motorists traveling eastbound on US 160 (mileposts 88 through 89) will be limited to a single lane and should expect delays of up to 15 minutes between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists are asked to slow down for the safety of surveyors working near the highway.

This survey work is being done in advance of several road improvements as part of the US 550 – US 160 Connection South project. Anticipated work in the coming weeks at the base of Farmington Hill includes:

  • Modernization of several stormwater inlets
  • Asphalting of the eastbound shoulder and the transition to the US 550 eastbound exit ramp
  • Removal of temporary concrete barriers at the foot of the former US 550 route up Farmington Hill
  • Removal of highway infrastructure left over from the previous three-way intersection design, including delineators, curbs and medians

Impact on traffic

Traffic disruptions on Tuesday, September 3 between 1pm and 3pm include:

  • Eastbound lane change and short delays of 5 to 10 minutes
  • The vehicles are guided by flag personnel and signs
  • A speed reduction is enforced in the construction site
