Simone Biles stages “funeral” for her signature Biles II vault

Simone Biles buries a popular skill.

In a hilarious photoshoot posted to her Instagram account on Monday, September 2, the 11-time Olympic medalist apparently shared that she will no longer be performing the Yurchenko double spike, also known as “Biles II.”

“Rest in peace, Yurchenko double skewer 🫶🏾,” wrote the 27-year-old Olympic vault champion next to two pictures.

Dressed in a pristine white tracksuit, Biles sat on an arch lined with white funeral flowers.

The gymnast’s fans and friends were speechless by the silly post – in a positive sense.

“I’m dead. You win (obviously),” commented 2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin, while USA Gymnastics delivered its own eulogy: “Gone, but literally never forgotten.”

Considered the “most difficult vault in the world,” the routine consists of a somersault entry and backflip onto the apparatus, followed by two somersaults. The vault was officially renamed after Biles after she successfully landed it at the World Gymnastics Championships in Belgium last fall.

The Biles II tournament led Biles to three gold medals in the team, all-around and vault finals at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Biles, who has been wearing a boot lately since injuring her calf during the Paris Olympics, is preparing for the “Gold Over America” tour, which begins Sept. 16.

Billed as a “pop concert-style spectacle,” the icon will headline the event, where she will showcase her GOAT tendencies as well as the outstanding talent of other Team USA gymnasts, including Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Hezly Rivera, Fred Richard, Paul Juda and Brody Malone.

The athlete will begin her tour at the same time as the start of the NFL season for her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, meaning the two will spend more time apart.

Days before the Bears face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, September 8, Biles shared a tribute to the NFL star on Instagram Stories, writing, “See you in a few weeks 🤍🤧.”
