MLB MVP race 2024, odds: Ohtani and Judge are on another level

There are just over seven weeks left until the end of the MLB regular season, but the race for the MVP title has seemed to have been decided for some time.

In the American League, the New York Yankees have recovered from a minor slump that saw them lose 16 of 23 games from June 19 through the start of the All-Star break.

Despite all this, Aaron Judge remained sensational and the Yankees finally found their rhythm again.

The Bronx Bomber has a batting average of .322 with 103 RBI and 41 home runs.

His MVP odds remained stable at -900 last week.

In perhaps the ultimate show of respect, on Saturday, August 3, the Toronto Blue Jays issued Judge an intentional walk in the bottom of the second inning when no one was on base, there were two outs, and he was down three runs!

As if that wasn’t enough, he again exceeded the walk limit three times on Sunday, much to the dismay of his teammate Juan Soto.

Given this kind of treatment, is it any surprise that Judge is the clear favorite to win the American League MVP title?

Let’s look at the AL MVP odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of August 7.

American League MVP odds

Aaron RichterNew York Yankees: -900 (bet $10 to win $11.11 total)
Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City Royals: +500 (bet $10 to win a total of $60)
Gunnar Henderson, Baltimore Orioles: +1500 (bet $10 to win a total of $160)
Juan SotoNew York Yankees: +2000 (bet $10 to win a total of $210)

When it comes to the MVP odds in the NL, Shohei Ohtani The odds have dropped from -550 to -1000 over the last week.

Ohtani, who moved into the NL’s favorite slot after Mookie Betts was sidelined, has separated himself from the competition. He has a .306 batting average, 34 home runs and 81 RBIs. If those numbers aren’t enough for you, on August 3 he became the first player this season to join the 30/30 club when he recorded three steals against the Oakland A’s. He is the third-fastest player in MLB history to reach that milestone when considering the number of games played.

Eric Davis reached the mark in 90 games in 1987 and Alex Rodriguez accomplished the feat in 107 games in 1998.

Phillies superstar Bryce Harper’s odds rose from +750 to +2000 last week, dropping him to third place on the odds list behind the brilliant Ketel Marte of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Marte’s odds worsened from +4000 to +650 as the second baseman was in top form for the Diamondbacks, posting batting averages of .357/.429/.619 and seven home runs in July.

Unfortunately for him, he is unlikely to overtake the otherworldly Ohtani.
