    After one of the most exciting basketball games in Olympic history in the semifinal against Serbia, the US national basketball team is ready for its final test. LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and Co. will fight for the gold medal against host France in Paris on Saturday evening.

    While reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama helped France win, lesser-known players like Guerschon Yabusele and Isaia Cordinier also shone on the road to the final. France steamrolled Germany in the semifinals and Greece in the quarterfinals, while the USA steamrolled Brazil in the quarterfinals before a shock loss to Serbia in the semifinals.

    It will certainly not be a friendly environment for the Americans at the Bercy Arena, but can they manage to win their fifth gold medal in a row?

      Guerschon Yabusele scores a layup just before the final whistle, reducing France’s halftime lead to eight points (49–41).

      Yabusele leads France with 15 points, followed by Victor Wembanyama with 13.

      Leading the way for Team USA is Devin Booker, who has scored 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting (2 of 3 threes). LeBron James has seven, while Anthony Edwards, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant each have six points.

      Jrue Hoilday hits a 3 to bring the USA back to within 10 points, 49-39. The US team is shooting 45% (9 of 20) from the 3-point line, while France is struggling at 19% (3 of 16).

      Kevin Durant could become the first U.S. basketball player to win four gold medals with a victory over France on Saturday.

      LeBron James would also win a fourth medal, having previously won two gold and one bronze medals.

      During these Olympics, Durant became the U.S. team’s all-time Olympic point scorer, surpassing Lisa Leslie’s 488 points. Durant has 502 points before the duel against France.

    • Joel Embiid faces the French fans one last time

      Joel Embiid was the constant target of boos and jeers during the Paris Olympics because he chose to play for the United States rather than France or Cameroon.

      He trolled the fans during the victory over Puerto Rico in the group match and danced after the thrilling semi-final victory over Serbia, which the DX “suck it” punch. That’s apparently an issue for Embiid ahead of Saturday’s gold medal game.

      The fans in Paris’ Bercy Arena are ready for a “rendezvous with history,” as a banner in the stands reads:

      So far, the USA-France men’s basketball record is 6-1 for the USA, including an 87-82 victory for the USA in the gold medal game at the Tokyo Olympics four years ago.

      As Shams Charania of The Athletic reported On Friday night, US coach Steve Kerr plans to start Kevin Durant in the gold medal game against France, with Jrue Holiday coming off the bench.

      France has not yet announced its starting lineup. Coach Vincent Collet replaced Rudy Gobert with Victor Wembanyama before the quarterfinal match against Canada to create a small-ball lineup and stuck with it against Germany.
