Michigan doctor charged with allegedly recording nude videos of women and children

OAKLAND CO., Michigan (WNEM) – A doctor with privileges at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township has been charged with allegedly taking nude videos and pictures of unsuspecting women and children over the past six years.

The charges were announced on Tuesday, August 20, by Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, accompanied by Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald.

According to the sheriff’s office, Dr. Oumair Aejaz, 40, was accused of filming children as young as 2 and women of various ages naked. He allegedly filmed the videos in hospital rooms, locker rooms, restrooms, bathrooms and bedrooms to which he had access, as well as at a local swim club.

In addition, the sheriff’s office said he likely recorded sexual encounters with multiple women, as well as with sleeping or unconscious patients, and that he also filmed relatives in the bathroom or while they were changing clothes.

Aejaz had privileges at Ascension Genesys and Henry Ford Macomb in Clinton Township.

On Aug. 7, detectives received a tip about Aejaz and began pursuing charges against him, the sheriff’s office said. He was arrested on Aug. 8 after a search warrant was executed for his home.

Six computers, four cell phones and 15 external storage devices were seized from his home, Bouchard said. One device contained more than 13,000 videos he had recorded over the past six years, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said it estimated it would take six months to forensically examine all seized materials.

Aejaz was arraigned on August 13 on the following charges:

  • A case of child sexual abuse
  • One count of using a computer to create and/or reproduce child sexual abuse material
  • Two cases of nude photographs of children under 18
  • Two cases of nude photographs of two women over 18 years of age
  • Four cases of using a computer to commit a crime

He is currently being held on $2 million bail.

Bouchard said Aejaz is an Indian citizen who began working in the U.S. on a visa. He came to the U.S. around 2011, completed his residency at Detroit Sinai Grace Hospital, then moved to Alabama. He returned to Oakland County and resumed his practice as an internist in 2018.

Because of Aejaz’s travels, the Sheriff’s Office believes the geographic scope of the investigation could expand beyond Genesee and Macomb Counties and include other states and countries.

The sheriff’s office is urging anyone who believes they are a victim to contact investigators via email at [email protected].
