Live-action film “Lilo & Stitch” to be released in summer 2025, first look at Stitch revealed | D23 2024

At this year’s D23, Disney announced a first look at the live-action film “Lilo & Stitch” as well as a new release window in summer 2025.

While no actual footage was shown, we did get a glimpse of the live-action Stitch model, which you can see below. Everyone’s favorite mischievous alien life form practically burst through the screen during Friday night’s main presentation, but that was about all that was revealed.

Shortly after the D23 presentation concluded, Disney also released a sneak peek of the live-action Stitch film, which you can watch below.

Newcomer Maia Kealoha will play Lilo in the film, joining a cast that also includes Zach Galifianakis in an unspecified role. The live-action adaptation of the 2002 animated film was announced back in 2018, and the new look and release window are one of the most significant updates since then.

Dean Fleischer Camp of Marcel the Shell With Shoes On will direct Lilo & Stitch, although Jon M. Chu, the director of Crazy Rich Asians and Wicked, was also considered. Filming was originally scheduled to begin in 2020 before numerous delays occurred.

We don’t know much more about the remake, but we can assume that Chris Kekaniokalani Bright’s script will largely follow the plot of the original. That film was about the young girl Lilo as she adopts Experiment 626, or Stitch, and forms a close bond with the alien that was once intended to be a weapon of chaos and destruction.
