Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl LVII hero visits Seattle Seahawks ahead of NFL Week 1

While Kansas City Chiefs fans weren’t heartbroken when wide receiver Kadarius Toney left, that doesn’t mean his NFL career is over. The former first-round pick visited the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, just days before the start of the NFL season. ESPN Analyst Field Yates was the first to report on Toney’s meeting with the franchise.

This is the first known connection between a team and Toney since he was cut from the Chiefs’ 53-man roster last week.

With similar options in the receiving corps and a disappointing 2023 season, Kansas City decided to part ways with Toney less than two years after signing him. The former Florida Gator recorded 41 catches for 340 yards in 20 games with the Chiefs, with the majority of that output coming in just seven games during the 2022 season.

Toney’s 2023 season was marred by mistakes that left him unplayable after Week 15. Despite his struggles, the elusive wideout boasts two Super Bowl rings despite being inactive due to health during Kansas City’s recent championship. Chiefs fans will fondly remember Toney for his key role in Super Bowl LVII, where his 65-yard punt return helped secure the win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Since entering the league in 2021, Toney has recorded 82 catches for 760 yards and four touchdowns. Kansas City acquired him from the New York Giants, his original team, for the 2022 season.

The Seahawks already have a strong trio of receivers at the top of their lineup. Led by the explosive DK Metcalf and reliable veteran Tyler Lockett, they’re counting on sophomore Jaxon Smith-Njigba to prove his worth as the 20th pick in last year’s draft. But there’s a significant drop off in performance behind them – one that Toney could bridge.

As a dynamic return specialist, Toney would be a tempting option for Seattle as the team seeks any help it can get to exorcise its division’s dominant demons, the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.
