August 2024 was a month of joy and celebration for some of Nigeria’s prominent citizens as their children tied the knot in a series of high-profile weddings.
In this report, PUNCH Online highlights some of the notable weddings that took place in August and featured the children of Nigeria’s elite, including politicians and traditional rulers.
1. Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II
The wedding season began on August 2 when Ashraf Adam, son of the restored Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, married Sultana, the daughter of former Peoples Democratic Party deputy chairman, Sulaiman Nazif.
The wedding ceremony took place at the National Mosque in Abuja and was followed by a luxurious reception.
The couple had their own Instagram page, #Sash24, which offered a glimpse into the happy occasion.
2. Governor Charles Soludo
Two weeks later, on August 17, Ifeatu Adaora, daughter of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, and Arinze Ibekwe exchanged their marriage vows in a beautiful white wedding ceremony.
The traditional wedding took place on August 10 in the governor’s hometown of Isuofia in the Aguata local government area of the state and was attended by several dignitaries, government officials and traditional rulers.
Soludo described the traditional wedding, which took place on August 10 in his hometown of Isuofia, as the first in his family in 142 years.
He said this was due to the lack of female children in his family until he broke the curse and God blessed him with four female children.
3. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also celebrated the marriage of his daughter Laila to Saleh Maitala at the National Mosque in Abuja on August 23.
The union was the culmination of a traditional process that began last year when Atiku hosted the groom’s family, who officially asked for Laila’s hand in marriage.
4. Governor Agbu Kefas
The following day, August 24, the Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, celebrated the wedding of his daughter Keziah to Bitrus Josiah in Jalingo.
The wedding ceremony was attended by prominent personalities including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former President Goodluck Jonathan and governors of the Peoples Democratic Party.
5. IGP Kayode Egbetokun
On the same day, Victor Egbetokun, son of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, married Anjolaoluwa Olaoluwakitan in Lagos.
Vice President Kashim Shettima was also a special guest at the wedding.
