QUICK HITS:

  • M. McGowan was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week and received the Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the Week award following her six-point performance last week.

    • The sophomore scored Denver’s first goal at No. 24 Texas A&M before assisting on four consecutive DU goals – two each at Texas A&M and Lamar.
    • In total, she was involved in five consecutive DU goals, which is the third-longest streak in Denver DI history.
    • She is the seventh DU soccer player to make the weekly TDS National Team and the first since Natalie Beckman was named TDS National Player of the Week on February 23, 2021.

  • In two consecutive seasons, a freshman from Denver has now scored the game-winning goal in two games in a row, something M. Murray did at Texas A&M and Lamar.

    • Moritz did so last year with wins against Colgate and at Oregon on September 7 and 10, 2023.

  • M. Murray and M. McGowan are among the best DI students in the country after the first two weeks of play:

    • M. Murray is one of only four DI rookies to win multiple games.
    • M. McGowan is the only freshman and sophomore to record at least four assists.

  • Denver’s first two goals at Lamar came just 1:47 apart – the fifth-fastest consecutive goals in an away game in DU’s Division I history.
  • With the 3-2 win at Texas A&M and the 3-0 win at Lamar, Denver scored at least three goals in consecutive non-conference away games for the first time since August 25 and September 1, 2013 (3-0 win on neutral ground against Northern Colorado and 3-2 win at UC Irvine).

THE MATADORS IN SEARCH OF:

This is the third meeting between DU and CSUN, with Denver holding an all-time record of 1-0-1. The teams have never played in Denver before, with the only two previous results coming at CSUN (a 1-0 Denver win on September 19, 2019) and on neutral ground in Colorado Springs, Colorado (a 0-0 double-overtime tie on September 3, 2000).

The Matadors earned their first win of the year in their final game on August 25, posting a 2-1 result against LMU. Three CSUN players scored goals this season, including Jordyn Canister, who was named Big West Freshman of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against LMU.

WHAT’S NEXT:

Denver hosts Colorado College on Sunday, September 1 at 1:00 p.m. MT. It will be the team’s final home game before the Pioneers embark on a five-game road trip that will see them away from home for nearly all of September.
