Daniel Ricciardo F1 News: Martin Brundle pays emotional tribute to RB star

Formula 1 symbol Martin Brundle has paid tribute to “quality guy” Daniel Ricciardo as Visa Cash App RB made the decision to ax the Australian.

Ricciardo was in action at the Singapore Grand Prix last weekend, where he posted the fastest lap of the day about his final appearance for the team.

That was him now replaced by Liam Lawson for the remainder of this seasonand with no seat secured for 2025, it appears to have been on the grid for the last time.

Brundle praises Ricciardo’s career

The 35-year-old has been a mainstay in the sport since breaking through with Toro Rosso in 2012, going on to represent Red Bull, Renault and McLaren before moving to RB last season.

But the move didn’t go according to plan, as the popular racer was consistently outperformed by his teammate Yuki Tsunoda.

And his ongoing fighting have prompted his team to make a change in the cockpit to prepare for the future.

Although the eight-time race winner has been largely optimistic about his prospects throughout the year seemed visibly upset as he addressed the media after Sunday’s Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Now Formula 1 pundit Brundle has paid tribute to Ricciardo’s impact on the sport in an emotional tribute published in his column on Sky Sports.

“It was Daniel’s last race in Formula 1 for a while, maybe forever,” he wrote. “From a team perspective it was a rather half-hearted and confusing departure.

“The fans rewarded him with Driver of the Day as a farewell present, and with that he has a record of 257 starts, 8 wins, 3 poles and 32 podiums. And lots of smiles and happy fans.”

“Well done and good luck to him whatever happens next. He’s a good guy and a world-class driver.”
