Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase active in opening game against Patriots

CINCINNATI – Count Ja’Marr Chase is coming Sunday.

The Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver is set to play in the season opener against the New England Patriots. His participation was listed as questionable after he put his contract on hold during training camp and became ill on Saturday morning.

Chase had previously stated that the decision as to whether he would play was his and would be made sometime before kickoff. He also stated that he would be willing to play even without a contract extension.

And a new contract doesn’t seem to be in sight. Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Chase and the Bengals were unable to agree on new terms for the three-time Pro Bowler before the Week 1 game. He has two years left on his rookie contract.

Chase participated in warmups with the team on Sunday. He spent most of the morning alongside assistant Troy Walters while getting ready. Chase was also the first receiver to catch passes from quarterback Joe Burrow during warmups.

That softens the blow for a team that will continue to be missing a key player. Wide receiver Tee Higgins is unavailable for action on Sunday after suffering a hamstring injury.
