Amazon expands grocery delivery subscription to include annual plan

Amazon has expanded its grocery delivery subscription service by adding an annual plan for Prime members and extending its discounted subscription to all Prime Access members.

These new offerings build on the success of the grocery subscription since its launch in April, Amazon said in a press release on Wednesday (August 21).

“Since launch, we have continued to see strong grocery subscription signups and positive customer response,” the company said in the press release. “Customers are seeing the immediate benefit of the subscription as it saves them money on grocery delivery fees and makes their grocery shopping experience more convenient.”

The subscription includes unlimited grocery deliveries on orders over $35 from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market and local grocers and specialty retailers on Amazon.com, the press release said. It is available in 3,500 cities and towns across the United States.

At launch, the subscription was available for $9.99 per month for Prime members and $4.99 per month for customers with a registered Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, the press release said.

With the introduction of the annual plan, Prime members can now also choose this plan for $99.99 per year, according to the press release.

“With this new annual plan, Prime members can choose the grocery delivery subscription benefit that best fits their needs and budget,” the press release said. “The monthly option offers Prime members flexibility and lower upfront costs, while the annual plan offers the biggest savings.”

The other new offer, announced Wednesday, makes the discounted grocery delivery subscription available to all Prime Access members for $4.99 per month, regardless of the form of government assistance they qualify for, the press release said.

“We have many different customers with many different needs, and we want to save them all time and money so they can focus on what matters most,” Amazon said in the press release.

Amazon launched its grocery delivery subscription service in April after testing it in Denver, Sacramento and Columbus, Ohio, in 2023.

Tony Hoggett, Amazon’s senior vice president of global grocery, said in a press release in April that the company’s goal is to “create a best-in-class grocery shopping experience, whether shopping in-store or online.”
