When parking is free, service changes and more on Labor Day weekend in Lawrence – The Lawrence Times

On Labor Day, parking at downtown meters, lots and parking garages is free, and garbage and recycling pickup is delayed one day during the holiday week.

According to a city press release, residential customers whose regular trash pickup is Monday will have pickup moved to Tuesday, Tuesday through Wednesday, etc. There will be no yard waste or bulk waste pickup during the holiday week, and there will be no roll-off service, cart/dumpster exchanges, deliveries or maintenance on the holiday and Saturday of the holiday week (Sept. 7).

Commercial trash collection will operate as scheduled this week, with the exception that there will be no cardboard recycling service outside the Downtown District on Labor Day.

Lawrence Transit’s scheduled and paratransit buses will not operate on Monday. Regular service will resume on Tuesday.

Lawrence and Douglas County government offices are closed Monday.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed on Sunday and Monday, September 1 and 2, but the digital library will be open 24 hours a day.

The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St., is open Monday from 1 to 6 p.m. The Indoor Aquatic Center is closed.

The administrative offices at South Park and Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed Monday, but the Lawrence Sports Pavilion will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and the Community Building and Holcom Park and East Lawrence recreation centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

There will be no uniform recreational programs, lifelong recreation or fitness, dance, martial arts, classes, open gym gymnastics, ninja gymnastics, adult or youth sports on Monday. Training for youth sports is the responsibility of the coaches, the press release states.

Eagle Bend Golf Course will accept tee times from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday and the facility will be open from 7:00 a.m. until dusk.

The cemetery office is closed, but all cemeteries are open throughout the day.

The Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center is closed on Labor Day. If you or someone you know is in crisis, the Treatment & Recovery Center of Douglas County is available 24 hours a day at 1000 W. Second St. The HeadQuarters Kansas Crisis Hotline is also available at 785-841-2345 or 988.
