Timothée Chalamet lands next leading role in a film

Dune: Part 2 star Timothée Chalamet has landed his next leading role in a film.

The actor will star in Josh Safdie’s upcoming A24 film “Marty Supreme” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Plot details of the new film are currently being kept under wraps, but it is expected to be about table tennis after A24 posted a teaser image of a ping pong ball on X (formerly Twitter).

“Josh Safdie’s MARTY SUPREME starring @RealChalamet. Coming soon to theaters,” read the caption.

In addition to directing, Safdie also co-wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bronstein. The pair will also produce alongside Chalamet, Eli Bush and Anthony Katagas.

The project reunites Safdie with A24 after the company produced his two most recent films, Good Time (2017) and Uncut Gems (2019), both of which he co-directed with his brother Benny Safdie.

Chalamet, on the other hand, was busy filming James Mangold’s biopic “A Complete Unknown,” in which he transforms himself into cult musician Bob Dylan.

The film’s synopsis states: “At the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, a young Bob Dylan breathes new life into the folk music scene by going electric and making rock the voice of a generation, marking one of the most transformative moments in 20th century music.”

Elle Fanning from “The Great” plays the portrayal of Dylan’s partner Suze Rotolo, with whom he was together from 1961 to 1964, when the relationship ended after his affair with Joan Baez.

The cast also includes Edward Norton as folk singer and social activist Pete Seeger, Boyd Holbrook as legendary musician Johnny Cash and Monica Barbaro as singer-songwriter Baez.

Chalamet also landed a big deal at Warner Bros following the success of Wonka and Dune: Part 2. In March, Variety reported that the studio had signed a multi-year deal with the actor that covers both his work as a performer and producer.

“Working with Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy and their teams on ‘Wonka’ and ‘Dune’ over the past few years has been a deeply rewarding experience,” Chalamet previously said in a statement.

“These are studio bosses who believe in real filmmaking, and I’m so grateful for their support as an actor, producer and collaborator. This partnership feels like a natural next step. Let’s go!”

There is no release date for Marty Supreme yet.
