Solheim Cup Sunday pairings, starting times announced: USA is clearly in the lead

This may be the Solheim Cup, but the Europeans spent Saturday afternoon mentioning Medinah by name.

A similar situation prevails for the European women, who are trailing the US team 10-6 ahead of Sunday’s singles. That was 12 years ago at the Ryder Cup, when the European men pulled off a stunning result on Sunday to win the Cup. Since then, that victory has become the rallying cry of most losing teams in international team golf.

The USA needs to be 4.5 points ahead to win the Solheim Cup for the first time since 2017. The Europeans would retain the trophy if the match ends 14-14 – just like a year ago in Spain.

This week, the Americans have been the better team at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course outside Washington, DC, winning the first two sessions on Friday and taking half the points on Saturday. Nelly Korda, Rose Zhang and Lauren Coughlin are all 3-0 this week, and four other Americans have two points. The mood on the U.S. team is so good that two caddies ripped their shirts off on the second hole on Saturday afternoon, fulfilling a bet with Megan Khang and Alison Lee. The U.S. led 10-4 before the Europeans battled for the final two games of the day.

US captain Stacy Lewis will send world No. 1 Korda out first on Sunday, followed by the unbeaten Khang and Lee. Zhang and Lexi Thompson, who may be playing her last Solheim Cup, are also among the first seven matches on the course.

It’s a showdown of strength and European captain Suzann Pettersen will need to field a strong team. Charley Hull will face Korda and Emily Pedersen will face Khang. Anna Nordqvist against Allisen Corpuz is another highlight.
