ROSSVILLE, Georgia — Couples looking to get married at a specific location in Rossville may be out of luck.

Due to a zoning issue, they were forced to cancel reservations of people who had already booked months in advance.

This venue is called Old Bailey Station.

Mayor Hal Gray told us that the building’s proximity to an industrial area forced the city to close the venue for the time being.

“You have the mill and everything here, with the black lines around it, that is considered an overlay and part of the mill district.”

This simple zone problem poses questions for some couples.

The company advertises itself as “the perfect setting for your dream wedding or other special event.”

However, due to zoning issues, at least two events and weddings had to be cancelled.

Owner Melissa Revels says she has postponed two of them until a later date.

“We were in two zones, in one it was allowed, in the other not. Double control was necessary,” says Revels.

Since the building is located in the industrial zone of the factory and the commercial development zone…

“The overlay doesn’t allow for the kind of venues she wants to set up down there.”

Mayor Hal Gray says the square needs to be repurposed to accommodate large events such as weddings.

“You know, we hate this, but we have no control over it,” says Mayor Gray.

Revels says it can be stressful for clients to be told they need to reschedule their appointment, but…

“Everyone was pretty flexible. We only had to reschedule two dates, but we were able to work with everyone.”

Mayor Gray says they are doing everything they can to submit the rezoning application as quickly as possible.

And he is happy to have the company in the area.
