Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum are one of Hollywood’s newest power couples, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to call off her engagement and think about starting a family.

In a new interview with esquireKravitz talked about her directorial debut, Flash twiceand revealed that she met Tatum during the casting and the couple started dating shortly before filming. It’s no secret that her father, Lenny Kravitz, is a fan of their relationship – he even let it slip once during his appearance at the Zoë Ball and friends Podcast that “we’re getting married next year.” But according to Zoe, her father’s timeline isn’t set in stone.

“It’s literally something we said casually,” Zoë said esquire. “Like, I might have said, ‘Next year would be cool.'” Even if Lenny was right, it’s very unlikely that Zoë would reveal an exact timeline—she and Tatum secretly got engaged in October, and the couple never officially confirmed the rumors (though she was spotted wearing a ring on her ring finger).

After marriage, people often have children, but Zoë has other plans for her future – and she considers her projects as her babies.

“For a long time I felt like there was something wrong with me,” she told the magazine about her lack of desire to become a mother. “I was waiting for the light to go on, but it never did. When you’re younger you think, ‘I can’t have kids. I’m too young! That would be crazy.’ I actually had to figure out what I wanted.”

“For a lot of people, having children is a huge, life-changing event – and I think they should receive a certain level of attention and respect from their community,” Zoë added, noting that she wants the same respect for her work that women receive for motherhood. “There’s a lot of pressure on women to have children and there’s a feeling that they have no purpose if they don’t. But with this film, it feels like I’ve given birth to a child.”

Tatum already has an 11-year-old daughter, Everly, with ex-wife Jenna Dewan (the former couple divorced in 2018). This means Zoë will become a stepmom once she and Tatum marry.
