Zay Flowers leaves last year’s Chiefs game behind him

Rashod Bateman has a good feeling about his chemistry with Lamar Jackson

Rashod Bateman has had his healthiest summer since joining the Ravens, giving him plenty of playing time with Lamar Jackson.

Their time together is another reason why Bateman can’t wait for Week 1. He’s expecting his best season yet, and his budding chemistry with Jackson is one of the reasons why.

“I think we’re in a good place now,” Bateman said. “We’ve put in a lot of work. I was able to participate in training camp, so we’re looking forward to that.”

“This is my first offseason where I’m fully healthy, training camp where I’m fully healthy. I know I missed a few days, but I’ve never been on the training field this long since I got here. I’m excited to get out there and do my thing.”

The attention Flowers, Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely are drawing from the defense could provide Bateman with opportunities to play against single coverage, and he wants to take advantage of that opportunity. Numerous Ravens, including Jackson, Zay Flowers and head coach John Harbaugh, have said they expect Bateman to have his best season. While Bateman likes to hear that, his confidence is already high, especially because he’s healthy.

“It doesn’t really do my confidence any good, it just shows me that this team and this organization believes in me,” Bateman said. “I’ve always had the confidence to play football and do the things I need to do. But to sign a contract extension here shows that (general manager Eric) DeCosta, (owner Steve) Bisciotti, Lamar, Harbaugh, (offensive coordinator Todd) Monken, whoever it is, they all believe in my ability. That gives me peace of mind.”

Flowers noticed that Bateman had been locked up every day since the camp began.

“He’s going to have a good year this year,” Flowers said. “You can tell he’s been focused in the meeting rooms, he’s been talking to Lamar, he’s just been engaging with everybody and getting more involved in the offense. I think it’s going to be a great year for him.”
