GURGAON: Three cyber fraudsters were arrested on Friday for identity fraud officer out of Samsung And Attract individuals under the pretext of new cell phones.
The accused, identified as Mani Chaubey from Kaimur district in Bihar, Khushwant Goit from Nai Basti in Dehradun and Rohit Singh from New Seemapuri, Delhi, were arrested from Sector 24.
ACP (Cybercrime) Priyanshu Diwan said the accused used a fraudulent modus operandi to lure their victims. Mani Chaubey, the mastermind of the scam, posed as a Samsung employee and contacted individuals promising them a new Samsung phone. He then asked the victims to deposit a certain amount on a Bank account to accept an offer. Once the money was received, he transferred it to the bank accounts of his accomplices Khushwant Goit and Rohit Singh. The trio then blocked the customers’ phone numbers so that they had no way of contacting or tracking them down.
Gurgaon PoliceThe Cyber Crime Unit was able to track down and arrest the three through technical tracking. A case was filed against them with the Cyber Police under Section 318(4) (Fraud) of the BNS.
The police have recovered a mobile phone and a SIM card from the possession of the accused. “We are following up on the leads to uncover further implications of this scam and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice,” the officer said. The police have issued an alert urging the public to remain vigilant and cautious and asking them to report any suspicious or fraudulent activities to the cybercrime hotline on 1930.
