X-rays show how close the famous TV presenter came to paralysis after breaking his neck

Famous TV presenter Nev Schulman shared shocking news with his fans. The Catfish icon shared the sad news that he broke his neck in a road accident. Fortunately, he was not paralyzed, the TV presenter said. However, X-rays showed the extent of his injuries.

Schulman shared the news on Instagram. Schulman said his accident happened out of the blue. He had just been enjoying a quiet day of fishing with his family.

He wrote: “I went fishing with my family on Sunday. It was amazing, my son’s idea. One of those days that just works. We found a free boat (thanks, Captain Ben!) and caught all kinds of fish, most of which we threw back because they were too cute. Especially the puffer fish. It was magical. A day full of love and wonder, as only quiet days in nature with the family can be.”

The next day, he was on his way to pick up his son when the accident happened.

He wrote: “Monday was not one of those days. Monday was a day when I learned what ‘before the accident’ really meant. And Monday made me realize how lucky I was to have Sunday. It’s true what they say – life can change in an instant.”

He continued: “I never made it to pick up my son from school on his bike. In some ways, I’m glad I didn’t. I was alone at the time of impact. Me and the truck. And then, I guess, the sidewalk. I was alone and unconscious. And then conscious again. Maybe I was OK (I wasn’t). Maybe I can still do my long run on Thursday (I couldn’t).”

Schulman said he broke his neck in two places. The X-rays show the condition before and after surgery. Fortunately, he had stable fractures, meaning his spine is not broken. There is a real risk of paralysis with neck injuries. However, he said there is a concern about being able to move his hands.

Famous TV presenter is grateful

Schulman continued, “I broke my neck. C5 and C6 to be exact. Stable fractures. I’m not paralyzed. My hands were a question mark for a minute, but the human body is incredible and so are PEOPLE. The incredible knowledge and care from everyone in the medical community was so remarkable. From EMS to the emergency room in Southampton to the intensive care unit in Stony Brook. It’s hard for me to feel sorry for myself when I hear from the doctors how many people with similar injuries will never walk again.”

Schuman said he was really lucky. However, he said doctors predict a full recovery.

He said: “I’m lucky to be here, to be alive, to hug my family and to be expected to make a full recovery. And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude. For the big and small things before the accident and now for everything moving forward.”
