Wythe County Water & Wastewater is issuing a boil water advisory

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Wythe County Water & Wastewater issued a boil water notice on Sunday, September 29th.

Wythe County Water & Wastewater says boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, beverage and food preparation, and ice making until further notice.

Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water and is the preferred method of ensuring tap water is safe to drink.

Wythe County Water & Wastewater has listed the county’s critical boil water areas.

  • Honorary Award
  • Felt Alley
  • Rakestown Rd
  • Broadway Road
  • Fox Den Rd
  • Blue Sky Dr

If you can’t boil your tap water,

  • An alternative cleaning method for residents who do not have gas or electricity is to use liquid household bleach to disinfect the water. The bleaching product should be freshly purchased, free of additives and fragrances, and contain a hypochlorite solution of at least 5.25%. Public health officials recommend adding 8 drops of bleach (about ¼ teaspoon) to every gallon of water. The water should be stirred and allowed to stand for at least 30 minutes before use.
  • You can also use water purification tablets by following the manufacturer’s instructions.
