Work to watch for in the Spokane area this week

Workers will continue to add street grating, replace water mains and put up signs to direct traffic throughout the Spokane area. County spokeswoman Martha Lou Wheatley-Billeter reminds motorists to slow down in construction areas for the safety of construction workers.

According to Washington state law, traffic fines double in work zones.

Below are some of the construction projects causing closures and detours in the area this week.

City of SpokaneAsh Street is closed between Dean Avenue and Broadway Avenue.

Shannon Avenue is closed between Washington Street and Division Street as workers grind down the existing pavement and apply new asphalt.

Greene/Market Street northbound is closed between Mission and Wellesley Avenue, with a detour in place.

Cheney-Spokane Road is closed between Latah Bistro and Cedar Road.

Hartson Avenue is closed between Ralph Street and Greene Street.

Third Avenue is closed between Thor and Rebecca Streets. A detour is in place from Hartson Avenue to Havana Street. Eastbound Interstate 90 is accessible from Third Avenue via the detour.

Exit 283B Thor/Freya eastbound on I-90 remains closed.

The Washington Stevens Bridge is closed. A detour has been set up to direct southbound motorists on Washington Street along North River Drive and northbound motorists on Washington Street along Spokane Falls Boulevard.

Upriver Drive is closed between Ralph Street and Carlisle Spur. The city expects the road work to be completed by October.

Indian Trail Road is closed between Kathleen Avenue and Strong Road; the city expects fiber optic work to be completed by October.

53rd Avenue and Ray Street are temporarily closed.

Due to the end of the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival, Joe Albi Way will be closed until 9:00 a.m. Monday.

Spokane Falls Boulevard will be closed between Lincoln and Monroe Streets until 1:30 a.m. Monday as the Tacos y Tequila event ends.

Because of the Summer Dance Market, Wall Street between Spokane Falls Boulevard and Main Avenue is closed every Saturday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Summit Parkway will be closed between Cedar Street and Adams Lane every Wednesday from noon to 10 p.m. for the Kendall Yards Night Market.

The sports field at Underhill Park is closed for renovations until the fall.

Expect temporary road closures and detours along Riverside Avenue and First Avenue between Hemlock Street and Cedar Street as road crews remove and replace pavement.

South Riverton Avenue is closed between Ermina Avenue and Fiske Street.

Ralph Street will be closed between Carlisle and Euclid Avenues until September 6.

The northbound ramp from Wellesley Avenue to the future North Spokane Corridor will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Spokane areaBigelow Gulch Road is closed from Havana Street to Orchard Prairie Road and is only accessible to residents. A detour is in place. The closures are due to the extensive project to straighten the once winding road. The county expects construction to last until November.

Brooks Road is closed from Thorpe Road to US Highway 2 and open only to local residents with detours.

Hatch Road is closed from Midway Road to Bridle Trail and open only to residents with detours.

Addison Street will be closed from Bridle Trail Road to Westcrest Avenue on Saturday. The closure is due to the Addison Block Party, which will take place from 3 to 8 p.m.

The Little Spokane Drive Bridge #3704 is closed during construction of the bridge structure. Perry Road on the west side and Woolard Road on the east side are closed.

Zephyr Road is closed from Lakeside Road to the entrance of Liberty Lake Regional Park during the summer as the county resurfaces this section of road outside the park.

Market Street is closed from Francis Avenue to Private Road and is expected to reopen in November.

Red Road Drive is closed at Overview Circle, reopening scheduled for September.

Sorrel Avenue is closed from Stoneman Road to Fairview Road and is expected to reopen in September.

Brooklawn Drive is closed from Greenleaf Drive to Columbus Street and is expected to reopen in late August.

Clubhouse Road is closed from Sprague Avenue at the Liberty Lake city limits to First Avenue and is expected to reopen in early November.

On Monday and Tuesday, lanes on Hawthorne Road from US Highway 2 to Waikiki Road will be closed. Traffic controllers will direct drivers.

Lanes Market Street will be closed from Francis Avenue to Magnesium Road on Thursday. Billboards will provide instructions to drivers.

On Thursday and Friday, lanes on Whitworth Drive from US Highway 395 to Waikiki Road will be closed. Traffic controllers will be in place to direct drivers.
