Women’s soccer loses season opener at Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, California. – The San Diego women’s soccer program (0-1, 0-0 WCC) fell into an early hole and was unable to recover, losing its season opener 3-0 to Cal State Fullerton (1-0, 0-0 Big West) on Thursday night at Titan Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a cautious first ten minutes, it was the Toreros who took the first shot on goal of the game. Sarah Evans She was caught after a through ball from Mikayla Abrenica.
  • Evans took a shot and forced the Titans goalkeeper to make a save at the near post.
  • San Diego limited the Titans for the first 20 minutes, but the home team broke through in the 22nd minute with a goal from Makenna McGill.
  • Opportunities of Tamia Graham and Abrenica didn’t want to play and the Titans responded with another goal in the 32nd minute by Kaylee Noble to make it 2-0.
  • The lead was extended even further in the 44th minute when Noble scored another goal to increase Cal State Fullerton’s lead to 3-0.
  • While the Toreros defense was able to keep the Titans under control in the second half, the offense was unable to get enough shots to provoke a comeback and they let the first goal down.
