Women’s golf announces schedule for 2024-25 season

ABILENE — The Wildcats officially unveiled their 2024-25 schedule on Friday, including five appearances in tournaments hosted by schools in the Power 4 Conference, the program’s first home tournament and a trip to Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Arizona, for the WAC Championship.

“We are pleased to have a great program this season,” said head coach Rob Bennett“After we came onto the scene last year, we caught the eye of many different coaches from around the country and that has given us the opportunity to compete against some of the best college golf teams on a regular basis. We believe we belong in these types of fields and that we will be able to compete well against such strong fields.”

The Wildcats begin their second season in program history on Sept. 2 with a trip to West Lafayette, Indiana, to compete in the Boilermaker Classic hosted by Purdue. The tournament runs through Sept. 3. ACU then travels to Lubbock for the Red Raider Invitational hosted by Texas Tech, which will be held Sept. 24-25 at the Rawls Course.

To conclude the fall portion of the schedule, the Wildcats will play two tournaments in October. First, the Wildcats will compete in the Dale McNamara Invitational at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, on October 14-15, with the tournament being played in Tulsa. Finally, the ‘Cats will travel to the Bahamas for Texas A&M’s White Sands Invitational at Ocean Club Golf Course on October 18-20.

ACU begins the spring half of its season at the BGSU Women’s Intercollegiate on Feb. 11 and 12. The tournament, hosted by Bowling Green, will be held at Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Arizona, the same course that will host the WAC Championship in April.

Next up, the Wildcats will host their first tournament in the program’s short history. The West Texas Classic will be held on March 3 and 4 at the Abilene Country Club North Course.

“We’re excited to host schools from all over the country here in Abilene and the opportunity to play here at home in front of our fans,” Bennett said. “It’s not common for a team to host a home tournament, so we’re really excited to be able to represent ACU in this way and hope that Wildcat fans will show up in droves in purple to cheer us on to victory.”

After the West Texas Classic, the Wildcats will compete in three more tournaments in March. They will first stay in Texas and then travel to Sugarland for Houston Christian’s Riverbend Intercollegiate at Riverbend Country Club on March 10-11. The ‘Cats will then travel to Tallassee, Florida, for the Florida State Match Up at Seminole Legacy Golf Club on March 21-23. The schedule will conclude in March in Phoenix, Arizona, at Papago Golf Club for Arizona State’s PING/ASU Invitational.

The final tournament of the ACU regular season will be April 7-8 at the “Mo” Morial Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.

The WAC Championship will be held this year at Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Arizona, and is scheduled to be included in the NCAA Tournament. Last year, the Wildcats finished second as a team and were the individual winners of the tournament. Ryann Honeawho played in the NCAA Regional in Bryan last season

If the Wildcats qualify for the postseason, the NCAA Regionals will be May 5-7 and the NCAA Championship will be March 16-18 at the Champions Course at the California Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

“We know this year’s schedule will be challenging,” Bennett said. “It’s a challenge we’re excited about and we look forward to continuing to demonstrate that the program is evolving into one of the best programs in the country.”
