Women’s golf announces competition schedule for 2024-25

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida. – Bethune-Cookman Women’s Golf announced its 2024-25 competition schedule on Monday, as head coach Harry Stokes and the Wildcats will compete in 12 tournaments during the upcoming fall and spring seasons.

After the year 2023/24, in which Katie Robinson The Wildcats were Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) individual medalists and Bethune-Cookman finished second as a team at the SWAC Championships. The Wildcats strengthened their ranks in the offseason with the signing of Ashlie Hobbs from the transfer portal. Hobbs, a graduate of Texas Southern, finished fourth overall at the SWAC Championships.

Bethune-Cookman opens the season on Sept. 9-10, when the Wildcats travel to the Powercat Invitational, hosted by Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas. Two weeks later, the Cats stay in state and travel to Jacksonville, Florida, to compete in The Match at the Marsh, co-hosted by Jacksonville and Stetson (Sept. 23-24). The month ends with the Cats visiting Port Clinton, Ohio, for the second consecutive year to compete in the Rocket Classic, hosted by Toledo.

In two events in October, B-CU will travel to the Holy Cross Women’s Invitational (October 22-23) in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the French Broad Collegiate Invitational (October 28-29) hosted by UNC Asheville in Arden, North Carolina.

“I’m really looking forward to the fall portion of the schedule, and we’re playing in some great events at some new venues,” said Stokes, who will begin his fourth season as coach in Daytona Beach. “We have three All-SWAC players from last year on the roster, along with a wealth of experience in the rest of the lineup. These early-season tournaments are a good gauge to see where we need to improve heading into the spring schedule.”

The spring campaign begins with the Maroon and Gold kicking off the ASU Spring Classic (February 16-17), hosted by Alabama State in Montgomery, Alabama. The following week, the Cats will compete in the Babs Steffens Invitational (February 24-25), hosted by Stetson in Debary, Florida.

In March, B-CU travels to Gainesville, Florida for the Lady Bison Invitational (March 3-4) hosted by Howard, the Oldfield Intercollegiate (March 17-18) is in Okatie, South Carolina, and the month ends with the Cats in the Ironwood Invitational (March 31-April 1) hosted by East Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina.

The SWAC Championships will be held April 14-16 in Birmingham, Alabama, with the event relocating from The Refuge in Flowood, Mississippi.

Meanwhile, the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship will cap the spring campaign from May 4-6 at Whistling Straights Golf Course in Kohler, Wisconsin.

“I think we have a very balanced schedule in the spring,” commented Stokes. “We’re going to face some very strong competition and I think that will only make us better as we prepare for the SWAC Championship.”
