Women’s football starts the season with a 0-2 defeat

COLUMBIA, Missouri – The Missouri State women’s soccer team opened its season on Thursday with a 2-0 loss to Missouri.

The Bears (0-1) fired 11 shots in 90 minutes of play, including four on goal, but the Tigers (1-0) were faster than them with 15 shots and six on goal. Forward/Midfielder Reilly Heman led the Bears in shooting with three shots in 54 minutes.

“A very tough defeat against a strong team. We started slower than we wanted, struggled with nerves in the first game and played a little hectically,” said head coach Kirk Nelson said. “However, we made some adjustments in the second half and got going by playing our style. It’s great to see how well we defended and created several scoring opportunities. Also, several players stood out tonight. I’m looking forward to our first home game on Sunday!”

MoState opens its home schedule on Sunday, August 18th, against Tulsa at 4:00 p.m.
