Women’s basketball team named to WBCA Academic Team Honor Roll 2023-2024 with special mention

Atlanta, GA – WPI’s women’s basketball program was named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 2023-2024 list with a special mention in July.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes the NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women’s basketball teams nationwide that have the highest combined GPAs of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. Teams with a combined GPA of 3.0 that qualify for the top 25 in their respective divisions are also listed as special mentions. The 2023-24 season was the 29th that the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

Youngstown State had the best GPA in NCAA Division I with a 3.868 team GPA, while Ashland topped NCAA DII with 3.875. In Division III, Williams led the way with a 3.856 team GPA. Sterling led the NAIA division with a 3.831 team GPA, while Folsom Lake rounded out the top teams in the Two-Year College Division with 3.564.

Head Coach Women’s Basketball Cherise Galasso led her team to a 13-13 overall record and a 5-6 record in NEWMAC play, securing sixth place in the 2023-2024 NEWMAC Tournament. In the classroom, the Crimson and Gray players posted a team GPA of 3.607, missing top 25 honors by .079.

Other academic honors include four members of the Engineers: Alice Kelly (Whethersfield, CT), Ally McMorrow (Quincy, Massachusetts), Shannon Reno (Millbury, MA) and Adrianna Niles (Tewksbury, MA), who were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team for 2023-2024 NCAA Division III women’s basketball following last season.

In addition to the CSC Academic All-District award winners, Caitlyn Dasaro (Fairfield, Vermont) Kayleigh Carson (Seymour, CT), Corinn Ouellette (Trumbull, CT), Megan Stone (Hanson, MA), Delaney MacPhetres (Amherst, MA) were all named to the NEWMAC Winter Academic All-Conference team for 2024.
