Woman told friends in video call she hit a tree with her car; hasn’t been heard from since: Manitoba RCMP

A Winnipeg woman told her friends in a group video chat that she had crashed her car into a tree in southeastern Manitoba before they lost contact earlier this week, police said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Whitemouth received a missing person report for 29-year-old Brittany Dawn Storey shortly after 4 p.m. on Thursday, according to a press release on Saturday.

The Winnipeg woman was in a group chat with friends near Rennie – a small community west of Whiteshell Provincial Park – when she said she hit a tree and lost connection, police said.

Repeated attempts to reach Storey by phone after that call were unsuccessful, police said. Storey has not shown up at work since then, nor has she returned to her home in Winnipeg, nor has she been active on social media.

Jada Storey, Brittany’s younger sister, says people on the video call heard a bang before Brittany’s screen went black.

She said people have since speculated on social media about what happened to her sister, but urged them to contact the RCMP with any information instead.

“Telling us and then worrying is just not very helpful right now,” she told CBC on Saturday.

“If you think this is just a hunch, it could lead us somewhere.”

“We have to find her”: Mother

Police patrolled the area between Rennie and Winnipeg but found no sign of Brittany Storey or her vehicle, a white 2016 Dodge Journey with Manitoba license plate LFR 884.

Denise Johnson, Brittany’s mother, said her family has been desperately searching for their daughter since Thursday.

“We drove around every day from morning to night and searched.”

She says the RCMP told them Saturday morning that they had requested information from several social media sites to determine her daughter’s location.

“Look for her vehicle,” Johnson said. “We have to find her.”

Brittany is described as 5’11” tall and weighing 130 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Whitemouth RCMP at 204-348-2935 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or on-line.
