Woman taunts tiger at Cohanzick Zoo, police say – NBC New York

Authorities are searching for a woman caught on video jumping a fence and teasing a tiger at a New Jersey zoo so much that she was nearly bitten when she put her hand through the wire, officials say.

According to police in Bridgeton, Cumberland County, the woman was visiting the Cohanzick Zoo, which was founded in 1934 and bills itself as the Garden State’s first zoo, when she began attracting the tiger.

A video shows her leaning forward a few centimeters from the animal and holding on to the enclosure with one hand – her fingers sticking out – while the tiger runs wildly past on the other side of the fence.

At one point, the woman jumps back from the fence as the tiger jumps straight at her. Eventually, she turns and walks away. She jumps back over the fence as a seemingly very frustrated tiger stews in its enclosure, a video shows.

Anyone with information about the woman in the video is asked to call 856-451-0033 extension 0. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online to the Bridgeton Police Department.

A sign on the fence notes that it is against city ordinance to climb over the tiger enclosure fence. It also says the area is under 24/7 surveillance. The video shared by police did not have sound, so it was not clear if anything was said.

This woman wasn’t the only one in the tri-state area who seemed undeterred by signs. Another woman has gotten into trouble more than once for taunting lions at the Bronx Zoo – including with roses and hundred-dollar bills.
