Woman stabs sister after argument after wedding

WBFF (Baltimore, MD) — Two sisters went to a wedding together Saturday, and by Sunday morning one of them had killed the other after an argument outside a Catonsville home, according to Baltimore County investigators.

Charging documents say police arrested 29-year-old Brianna Jarrells for allegedly stabbing her sister to death in the driveway of a home in the 5600 block of Wilkens Avenue, a street that forms the southeast boundary of Rolling Road Golf Club in Catonsville.

Officers were notified of the stabbing at about 1:35 a.m. They went to the home and found a 31-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries. An ambulance took the woman to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel about an hour later, according to court records.

Baltimore County investigators learned from a male witness that Jarrell and her sister had decided to visit him after the wedding.

The witness said the sisters arrived at his home around 8:30 p.m. While they were there, according to court documents, they “got into a small argument that escalated as the evening progressed.”

Sometime after 1 a.m. Sunday, Jarrells said she “just wanted to go home.” The witness then accompanied the sisters to the car they had arrived in, which was parked in the driveway. Charging documents say the witness returned to the house when he heard one of the sisters repeatedly say “Oh, my God.”

The witness told investigators he turned around and saw the older sister collapsed on the ground. He also noticed the floor was covered in blood. Meanwhile, Jarrells was leaning against the vehicle.

He said he tried to help the older sister and called 911 using Jarrell’s cellphone, charging documents state.

Court records show that county police took Jarrells into an interview room, where she made several unsolicited statements and asked about her sister before county homicide detectives arrived.

“I know it’s real,” she said, according to the indictment. “I actually used a utility knife.”

According to court documents, Jarrells said she pressed the knife to her sister’s head “as a warning” because she wanted her to keep quiet.

Investigators told Jarrells that her sister died from her injuries. Jarrells said, “I thought I just pinched her,” and then began to cry, charging documents say.

Officers reportedly found a yellow utility knife several feet from where the victim collapsed. Hours later, Baltimore County police announced in a news release that their officers had arrested Jarrells after the fatal stabbing and charged her with first-degree murder.

According to Baltimore County police, Jarrells is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
