PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured after their car was struck by a fire truck in Philadelphia Saturday afternoon, police said.

At around 12:10 p.m., police responded to the intersection of West Lehigh Avenue and West Sedgley Avenue in North Philadelphia where a fatal car crash had occurred between a fire truck and a sedan.

According to police, a Philadelphia fire truck was traveling westbound on Lehigh Avenue when a sedan traveling northbound on Sedgley Avenue passed in front of the car. The fire truck then struck the sedan, which then struck an unoccupied car parked nearby, police said.

According to police, two people, a 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were in the sedan and were taken to Temple University Hospital for their injuries.

The 23-year-old woman was pronounced dead in hospital shortly before 12:45 p.m., police said. The 29-year-old man is said to be in critical condition, police said.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Accident Investigation Division is investigating the accident.
