PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck early Thursday morning; the driver fled the scene, Philadelphia police said.
Officers are now searching for a gray pickup truck and are trying to obtain surveillance footage that will provide a more accurate description of the vehicle.
Police responded to a call of a fatal hit-and-run crash at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Front Street above Hunting Park Avenue.
Firefighter paramedics and police officers found a 24-year-old woman lying in the street with chest injuries. CPR was performed at the scene before the woman was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:23 a.m.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said the victim was traveling south on Front Street in a car with two other women before the accident.
“For some reason, the vehicle that the victim was in pulled over to the right and the 24-year-old woman got out. And then a pickup truck, simply described as a gray pickup truck, traveling south on Front Street, struck this woman,” Small said.
The crash scene is between a U.S. Post Office and Greenmount Cemetery, but businesses further up or down the block may have security cameras that showed the truck, Small said.
