When opportunities are missed, teams like arsenal won’t hesitate to make you pay for it and that’s exactly what happened. Simply looking at the score or highlights doesn’t really convey how the game looked from Wolves’ perspective.

Wolves are in a state of transition, trying out a new formation, introducing a new centre-back duo and giving three players their Premier League debuts, but there have been encouraging signs.

These changes do not represent a complete overhaul, but rather an evolution. Wolves have switched to a back four, with Toti and Yerson Mosquera selected by Gary O’Neil as defenders.

Despite Toti’s one year of Premier League experience, he seemed a little more unsettled and insecure. New signing Mosquera, on the other hand, showed composure, assertiveness and aggression – qualities that have been lacking in Wolves’ defence for some time. Mosquera’s approach is anything but timid and he is sure to become a fan favourite.

The switch to a back four is not our only change. We play out from the back more often, are more aggressive with and without possession and apply more pressing.

While previous managers have struggled with this formation, I am confident Gary will succeed, although I expect it will take some time for him to refine his new tactics.

There were two more debutants, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Rodrigo Gomes, and both seem to be smart buys.

Although Rodrigo is not a perfect replacement for Pedro Neto, he has been willing to take on defenders and I look forward to watching him grow.

Only the brilliant Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, who made a remarkable save, prevented new striker Larsen from scoring on his debut. Rodrigo, Jorgen and Yerson are all promising additions to the squad.

Finally, the crowd at the Emirates was pretty quiet for about 20 minutes in the second half and that is quite an achievement and one that I consider a success.
