Wolves’ Boubacar Traore out until Christmas after knee surgery

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Boubacar Traore will be out until Christmas after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

The 23-year-old Mali international injured his knee in the Carabao Cup home win against Burnley last month and Wolves have now been given a more precise timetable for his recovery following successful surgery.

“Bouba is on crutches at the moment,” said head coach Gary O’Neil. “He has had a repair to the joint surface in his knee and will probably be out until around Christmas.”

Wolves travel to West Midlands rivals Aston Villa in the Premier League tomorrow, with defenders Rayan Ait-Nouri (ankle) and Toti (thigh) both requiring late fitness tests.

“I have to check on Toti and Rayan at training today to see how they are,” O’Neil said.

“Neither of them has done much this week, so both have a lot of work to do to make sure they are ready to play again tomorrow.”

Substitute goalkeeper Dan Bentley is also expected to miss the trip to Villa Park due to illness, but midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde will travel with the team.

He was rested after the Carabao Cup defeat at Brighton on Wednesday to treat an ongoing minor knee problem.
