WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes hits back after Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman claimed the Caitlin Clark controversy ended their friendship

WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes has fired back at Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman after she claimed the Caitlin Clark controversy ended their friendship.

Lieberman appeared on Stephen A. Smith’s show on Monday and talked about all things Clark and Swoopes after commentating on the Indiana Fever’s game against the Dallas Wings on Sunday.

According to Smith, Swoopes was dropped from the game’s commentary team and replaced by Lieberman due to her previous controversy with Clark.

The former Detroit Shocks head coach did not deny the move and even went further by making details of their friendship public, saying a phone call to help Swoopes understand facts about Clark drove the wedge between them.

“Well, she was mad at me on the phone. And I said, ‘Sheryl, I’m not doing anything to hurt you. I’m just sharing something with you.’ And so our relationship is pretty much nonexistent at this point,” Lieberman said. “I tried to talk to her at the Final Four, but she wouldn’t talk to me.”

Swoopes responded to Lieberman’s claim on social media shortly after he made it to Smith.

“Here you go! I understand what you’re trying to do with your boy @stephenasmith but it’s not working,” Swoopes replied. “You know exactly what happened. And the same goes for my life without you (and him). You wanna go there?”

When it comes to Clark, Smith and Swoopes have spent much of this year attacking each other online.

Swoopes has been critical of Clark on several occasions, while Smith has been a vocal supporter of the “Indiana Fever” star.

Lieberman described herself as an unconditional supporter of women’s basketball at this point in her career and had nothing negative to say about Clark.

Some have criticized Smith online for talking about Swoopes with everyone except Swoopes herself.

It is not known whether the Texas Tech legend would accept an interview request from Smith.
