A local television meteorologist who was arrested last Thanksgiving and charged with OVI has been fired from WKYC Studios.
Hollie Strano, who was with WKYC Channel 3 News for more than 20 years, posted a post Monday morning announcing her resignation.
“I am sad to announce that after over 22 years of dedicated service, WKYC and Tegna have decided to terminate my employment after I publicly shared my journey of recovery,” Strano said. “I believe WKYC and Tegna’s actions demonstrate the stigma that comes with addiction and that so many in our community experience on a daily basis.”
Strano pleaded guilty to one count of driving under the influence, a first-degree misdemeanor, after crashing her car on Akron-Peninsula Road. A Cuyahoga Falls police officer reported that she was driving 70 mph in a 35 mph zone. Strano had a blood alcohol level of .244%, more than three times the legal limit of .08%. She has since posted about her recovery efforts.
A representative for Tegna, the operator of WKYC based in Tysons, Virginia, could not be reached for comment.
In addition to her work as a meteorologist, she has also hosted WKYC’s morning show “GO” and hosted “It’s About You.”
