Wisconsin QB Tyler Van Dyke leaves the game against Alabama with a leg injury

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke left Saturday’s game against No. 4 Alabama with an apparent right knee/leg injury sustained after a run on the opening drive.

Van Dyke, a transfer from Miami, was running 5 yards down the Wisconsin sideline when his right knee appeared to give out. The senior was not putting any weight on his leg as he went into Wisconsin’s injury tent and was then taken to the locker room, visibly distraught and holding his head in his hands. He was later taken out of the game before returning to the sideline in civilian clothes and on crutches with a brace for his right leg.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Van Dyke suffered a rare right knee injury last year against North Carolina but returned later in the season for Miami. The 2021 ACC Rookie of the Year missed parts of six games in Miami in 2022 because of an injury. Van Dyke had 406 passing yards with one touchdown and no interceptions for a 60.3% success rate in his first two starts at Wisconsin and had completed his first five pass attempts for 16 yards against Alabama.

Reserve Braedyn Locke, who competed with Van Dyke in training camp, came into the game to lead the offense.
