Wiretapping scandal: First release on bail approved

ASP Bhujanga Rao, who was arrested in connection with the wiretapping scandal, was released on bail by the Nampally court on August 19.

Bhujanga Rao was granted 15 days interim bail on medical grounds. In his application, Bhujanga Rao stated that he needed to undergo treatment for a heart problem.

Rao claimed that he had undergone a heart surgery in the past and submitted medical reports for the same. He later requested the court to grant him interim bail as he had to undergo further cardiac treatment.

Rao had been in judicial custody since March 23 for alleged involvement in the phone tapping case. He was the A2 in the case. He was released on bail after five months in judicial custody.

Bhujanga Rao was arrested along with several other police officials, including Special Intelligence Bureau chief Prabhakar Rao, DSP officer Praneeth Rao, ASP Tirupathanna and Sravan Kumar, managing director of an Indian broadcaster, for their involvement in the wiretapping scandal.

It was reported that the BRS leadership during its tenure in Telangana with the help of the said police officials intercepted telephone conversations of various politicians, industrialists and celebrities.
