Winning Mega Millions ticket worth $2 million sold in Southern California

A lucky Southern Californian is the state’s newest millionaire after the Mega Millions jackpot numbers were drawn Friday night.

The winning numbers were 6, 23, 41, 59, 63 and the Mega Ball number was 25. The Megaplier was 2X.

Although no winning ticket matched all six numbers to win the $740 million jackpot, a winner from Southern California matched five numbers and can now look forward to $2,233,779.

The winning ticket was sold at an ARCO-AMPM gas station at 27900 Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City in Riverside County.

The current jackpot has been growing since a $552 million prize was won in Illinois in early June. The $740 million jackpot is the seventh largest in the game’s history.

For the drawing next Tuesday evening, September 9, the jackpot will rise to an estimated $800 million.

Lottery officials confirmed that 249,974 additional winning tickets were drawn Friday, with prizes ranging from $2 to $10,931.

The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are approximately 1 in 302.6 million.

USA Mega, which tracks Mega Millions statistics, says the most common Mega Millions numbers are 10, 3, 17, 14 and 46 for the first five numbers. The most common Mega Ball number is 11.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states and the District of Columbia. Tickets cost $2 and there are nine ways to win a prize. Drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at 8 p.m.
