Winner of the Drag Race and first wedding at this year’s CI Pride

THE headliner of the main stage at this year’s Channel Islands Pride has been announced.

Drag artist Tia Kofi – who won the second series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK as well as RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs the World – will perform at the event, which takes place in Guernsey next month.

Kofi is one of numerous artists announced by the organizers who will perform on Saturday, September 7th and Sunday, September 8th.

Madonna tribute act Melissa Totten will perform at the Pride party in Market Square on Saturday. There will also be DJ sets and an official Pride after-party. More acts are to be confirmed.

The performances are in addition to the annual Channel Islands Pride Parade, sponsored by Mourant. The parade starts at Candie Gardens and heads to Market Square in time for the free, family-friendly Pride Party.

The event aims to raise funds for Liberate, the Channel Islands’ equality and diversity charity.

Ellie Jones, chief executive of Liberate Guernsey and director of CI Pride, said people can look forward to “fabulous drag shows” and “electrifying performances” as well as what is believed to be the first legal wedding on a Pride stage.

“The two people who wanted to get married were in the LGBTQ+ youth group many years ago and asked me if I would marry them. For me, the request was a great honor.”

She added: “Channel Islands Pride can only happen with the help and hard work of our wonderful team of dedicated volunteers.

“You can volunteer for an hour or a day, in advance or on the day itself – whatever fits your schedule. If you think you can help us, please get in touch.”

For people with special needs, the event will feature an alcohol-free zone, dedicated access volunteers and a stage signer.

A “Quiet Space” will also be available at the Pride Party.

Additional volunteers are encouraged to contact organizers to learn how they can help.
