Willie Brown threatens Trump with lawsuit over ‘false’ story about near-fatal helicopter flight

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has threatened to sue Donald Trump after the former president allegedly told a completely made-up story about him.

During a lie-filled press conference at Mar-a-Lago earlier this month, the former president told what now appears to be a fabricated story about a helicopter ride he once took with Brown.

In the sprawling story, Trump claimed that he and 90-year-old Brown – who briefly dated Kamala Harris in the mid-1990s – narrowly survived a helicopter crash, and that during the near-death experience the mayor spoke badly about his ex-girlfriend.

“Well, I know Willie Brown very well. In fact, I flew with him in a helicopter. We thought maybe this is the end,” Trump said.

“We were together in a helicopter on our way to a certain location and there was an emergency landing.”

Although he feared they were close to death, the Republican presidential candidate claimed that Brown used this moment to slander his former lover.

“It wasn’t a pleasant landing, and Willie was – he was a little worried. So I know him pretty well. I mean, I haven’t seen him in years. But he told me horrible things about (Kamala Harris),” Trump continued.

Shortly after Trump finished his speech, Brown refuted every aspect of his story, from the helicopter ride together to his criticism of Harris.

“I have never done business with Donald Trump, let’s start with that,” Brown said KRON4.

“And secondly, I don’t think I would want to be in the same helicopter with him,” he added. “I couldn’t imagine thinking of Kamala Harris in any negative way. She’s been a good friend for a long time, an absolutely wonderful woman, smart as hell and, electorally speaking, very successful.”

The former speaker of the California State Assembly called Trump’s narrative a work of “creative fiction,” adding, “It’s so far-fetched, it’s unbelievable.”

When asked if he had said anything negative about Harris to Trump, Brown vehemently denied it.

“It is as true as any other component of what you are asking me about,” Brown said The Chronicle“No, that’s not true at all.”

He added: “Absolutely not. I wouldn’t say anything bad about a woman to him. I would know better. It might encourage him to try (verbally).”

Now Brown has said he may sue the former president over the obviously false story because “someone has to make him stop lying.”

“If he continues like this, I will give him a taste of his own behavior at some point,” Brown told CBS News. “If he sues The New York Times because I said he lied, I’m going to sue him.”

Trump had threatened to sue New York Times after an article appeared in which Brown called the former president a liar.

Other personalities have since speculated that Trump may have confused her with Brown.

Former California Governor Jerry Brown, his successor Gavin Newsom and Trump flew together in a helicopter over the smoldering remains of the town of Paradise in 2018 to assess the damage caused by the Camp Fire.

Both Jerry Brown and Newsom said The New York Times that although it was a bumpy flight, there was no emergency landing and there was no mention of Harris.

Meanwhile, Nate Holden, a former California state senator, said Politico He thought Trump might have been talking about him. He said he and the former president were in a helicopter in 1990 that almost crashed.

“Willie is the little black guy who lives in San Francisco,” Holden said Politico“I’m a tall black man living in Los Angeles.”
