William Osula: Newcastle United signs striker from Sheffield United

Newcastle United have signed Danish U21 striker William Osula from Sheffield United.

The 21-year-old joins the Magpies for a reported £15 million fee after scoring three goals in 31 first-team appearances for the Blades.

The striker, who has made five appearances for Denmark’s U21 national team, made 21 Premier League appearances for Chris Wilder’s side last season as the Blades were relegated to the Championship.

“It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m delighted to have the opportunity to join Newcastle United,” said Osula.

“This is a great opportunity and when I heard about Newcastle’s interest, I immediately knew that I had to take this chance and join this club if it was presented to me.”

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe says the club have been monitoring Osula for three years after being recommended by assistant manager Jason Tindall, who spent time at Bramall Lane in 2021 as part of Paul Heckingbottom’s support staff.

“He’s a player I’ve known since JT’s (Jason Tindall) time at Sheffield United,” Howe said on Thursday.

“We have been watching him for three years and we are excited about him. He has all the qualities to become a great centre-forward.”

Osula is Newcastle’s sixth signing this summer, following the arrivals of Miodrag Pivas, Odysseas Vlachodimos, John Ruddy, Lloyd Kelly and Lewis Hall.
