Will Hurricane Francine hit Texas?

Tropical Storm Francine is rapidly approaching the United States and is expected to strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane by Wednesday. But will North Texas be affected?

Meteorologists expect Francine to stay near the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts, but rainfall is expected in South Texas. No impacts are expected in North Texas.

Heavy rain and wind along the Texas coast will bring more clouds and higher humidity to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with a slight chance of isolated showers over the next few days. Most light showers will be seen in southeast and east Dallas.

By Thursday, Francine is expected to weaken, causing humidity to drop and temperatures to rise again in North Texas. The September heat will return this weekend, and temperatures will climb back up to just above 80 degrees.

There is a possibility of flooding from the Houston area to the mouth of the Mississippi River south of New Orleans.

Emergency operations centers in South Texas are preparing for the Francine disaster and have staff on standby to restore power and clear debris.

Meteorologists predict a rise in water levels of 60 to 90 centimeters in the Houston region, which could lead to coastal flooding.
