A post on Eleven01’s Facebook page announced the release of an alleged Pippi Longstocking Remake, whose release is apparently planned for 2024.

The poster features an animated version of the classic character with her classic bright red hair while leaves fall around her. The title of the film, which can be seen on the poster below, is The new adventures of Pippi Longstocking:

Along with the poster was a short description of the film, teasing Monster HouseGil Kenan as director and Ghostbusters: The Ice Cold EmpireMcKenna Grace plays the lead role of Pippi. This film is to be developed by Sony Pictures Animation:

There was no Pippi Longstocking Film since 1997 – a 2D animated film starring Melissa Altro and Catherine O’Hara. This film was a financial disaster, grossing barely over $500,000 at the worldwide box office (according to Box Office Mojo).

Nils Nyman, CEO of Astrid Lindgren Films and grandson of author Astrid Lindgren, praised producer David Heyman and the rest of the team and was convinced of the vision of a great film adaptation:

“We are convinced that in David Heyman, who has already brought great literary works to the screen, together with Studiocanal, we have found a team that understands and appreciates the full value of Pippi Longstocking and can develop films that capture both the playfulness and the seriousness of my grandmother’s works.”

Heyman himself (known as producer of all 11 films of the Harry Potter Franchise) shared his determination to honor Lindgren’s vision and praised Pippi for inspiring so many families over the years:

“Pippi persevered and inspired families everywhere with her vitality, strength of character and her irrepressible Joy of life. Astrid Lindgren’s books have been translated worldwide for many years – a testament to her vision, which we would like to honour with a new film.”

Since then, there have been no further updates on the production status or release of this animated film.
