It’s been nearly two years since the Apple TV last received a hardware upgrade, so you may be wondering when a new model will be released.

In January 2023 BloombergApple’s Mark Gurman reported that the release of a new Apple TV is planned for the first half of 2024:
In addition to the future smart displays and new speakers, Apple is also working on revising its TV box. A new version in the current design with a faster processor is in the works for the first half of next year, the people said.
The first half of 2024 passed without a new Apple TV, so this rumor has died down and there have been no credible rumors about the device since then. Therefore, it is currently unclear when the next Apple TV will be released.
Apple recently announced that it will hold a special event on September 9th. However, the only products rumored to be unveiled there include new iPhones, Apple Watches and AirPods. A new Apple TV is not expected yet.

Whenever the next Apple TV comes out, it’s rumored to have a faster processor than the current A15 Bionic chip and an even cheaper price tag. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested the next Apple TV’s starting price could be under $100. The current Apple TV starts at $129 in the US with 64GB of storage, and a 128GB model is available for $149.
Both the second (2010) and third (2012) generation models of the Apple TV cost $99 at launch in the US, and Apple eventually dropped the price of the third generation model to $69. So there’s a precedent for a sub-$100 Apple TV that could better compete with budget streaming devices from vendors like Amazon and Roku.
There are no rumors of major design changes for the next Apple TV, but Gurman said Apple has considered adding a built-in camera to a future model. tvOS 17 added a FaceTime app to the Apple TV, allowing users to make video calls using the rear camera of a connected iPhone or iPad. If the Apple TV were to get a built-in camera, users would no longer have to rely on an external device for video calls on the TV.
