Who’s playing Thursday Night Football? Game, start time for Week 3

Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football” returns to kick off the third week. The streaming giant will face the AFC East for the second year in a row.

The New York Jets are ready for their first home game of 2024 at MetLife Stadium, where they will face the New England Patriots. The Buffalo Bills have a very early lead in the AFC East race after their victory over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football in Week 2, but the Jets and Patriots will look to make a statement as Week 3 begins.

The Jets and Patriots are tied 1-1 ahead of Thursday Night Football.

New England defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, giving Jerod Mayo his first win as head coach. The Patriots suffered an overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. New England’s running game was extremely effective in the first two weeks, with Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson combining for 177 rushing yards in the loss.

The Patriots have used nine-year veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett in the first two games. The veteran player starts ahead of Drake Maye, who was selected with the No. 3 overall pick. He was active in the first two weeks and did not commit a single turnover in either game.

Meanwhile, New York faced a difficult task in Week 1 when they faced the defending NFC champion 49ers on the road. The loss was followed by a 24-17 road win over the Tennessee Titans.

The Jets scored 17 points on Titans errors. Tennessee took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Jets’ discipline was on display throughout the game. New York won the battle for possession, forced an interception and recovered a fumble in the red zone. The Jets’ special forces also blocked a punt midway through the third quarter, and the ensuing drive ended with a Greg Zuerlein field goal. Aaron Rodgers and the Jets outscored the Titans 17-7 at halftime.

New York will try to carry the momentum from the short week against the Patriots.

Here’s everything you need to know about Thursday Night Football Week 3.

Who’s playing on Thursday Night Football tonight?

  • Comparison: New England Patriots at New York Jets
  • Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ

The Jets (1-1) and Patriots (1-1) play the second “Thursday Night Football” game of the season on Amazon Prime in Week 3.

Emotions will be running high for the Jets and their fans. Last season, New York suffered a devastating setback in Week 1 when Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon after just four snaps on the first offensive series. The four-time MVP is 40 years old and desperate to prove he’s worth the Super Bowl hype in the Big Apple.

However, Rodgers hasn’t been particularly impressive in his first two games. He relies heavily on running backs Breece Hall and rookie Braelon Allen. The latter is the NFL’s youngest player at 20 and has just scored two touchdowns. Rodgers and Allen scored a 12-yard touchdown in the first half in Nashville, a touchdown combination by the NFL’s oldest and youngest players.

The Jets finally ended the Patriots’ dominance in Week 18, ending the 2023 season. Even though Tom Brady left New England after 2019, the Patriots outscored the Jets. Before the Jets’ victory over New England in the final game of the 2023 season, the Patriots had won 15 consecutive games against New York since November 2016.

NFL fans should prepare for a low-scoring game on “TNF.” Defensive-minded head coaches will be guarding the sidelines, with Robert Saleh and Jerod Mayo leading their teams. The Jets have ambitions to win the AFC East, and this matchup will be a good litmus test to see if they are real contenders.
