The Royals are close to an AL Division Series appearance after winning Game 1 in the Wild Card Round against the Orioles on Tuesday.

It was Kansas City’s first playoff win since winning the 2015 World Series and fans were buzzing with excitement. They need one more win to knock out Baltimore, but fans are already dreaming about who the Boys in Blue might face in the next round.

In perhaps the most fitting way, the hated New York Yankees are waiting for the Royals should Kansas City advance.

In Game 1 of the Wild Card Series, Cole Ragans and the bullpen pitched a shutout against the Orioles, while superstar Bobby Witt Jr. drove in the game’s only run. It was a tremendous victory for the Royals, highlighted by outstanding pitching and opportunistic hitting.

Seth Lugo and possibly Michael Wacha now have the chance to end the series. If Kansas City wins, the ALDS starts on Saturday in New York. Game 3 on Wednesday, October 9th would be the first playoff contest in the City of Fountains in nearly a decade.

The Yankees have won five of seven games against the Royals this year, although Kansas City’s roster is much different than it was halfway through the season. Aaron Judge and Witt Jr. as well as the presumptive top-two finishers in the AL MVP race, potentially giving fans a showdown between the league’s two best players.
