Jana Duggar, the eldest daughter of the Duggar family from the reality TV show 19 children and countingmarried Stephen Wissmann on August 15, 2024 and celebrated with almost 500 guests.

The couple, who got engaged in June 2024, married at The Grand at Willow Springs, with Jana’s sisters serving as her bridesmaids. The wedding was a “dream come true,” Jana told PEOPLE, adding that she knew Stephen was “the one” because of his “character.”

“I think it’s just happened over time, his character, his coming back, he still loves me no matter what,” she said. “I know we have a big, crazy family and (that requires) you to still put up with a lot of things. I’m like, gosh, there aren’t many people who do that. I guess I must really genuinely mean something to him.”

Although the couple was only engaged for a short time, they had known each other for quite some time. They even dated briefly years before their wedding, but then split up. They got back together in early 2024 when Stephen asked Jana out on a date with a handwritten note.

“It was like, ‘What are we doing here? We still enjoy each other. We still value each other very much,'” the reality star said.

Although he is not yet 19 years old, Stephen grew up in a large family with 13 siblings in Milford, Nebraska.

“Coming from two larger families, we love coming together and celebrating moments like this,” Jana told PEOPLE at the time of her wedding. “And having them all there just means a lot to us.”

The 15-member Wissmann family is united not only by faith, but also by music.

The Wissmanns are a Christian/Gospel music family band formed by parents Loren and Gloria after their marriage in 1980. The band consists of all 13 children contributing musically and vocally. The family began performing locally in 1999 and now sings at various events including church services, festivals and Christian schools.

Their music is characterized by a variety of instruments and styles, including bluegrass, gospel, original compositions and hymns. The family band performs on a “gift of love” basis and relies on donations from their audience to finance their concerts.

Jana and Stephen’s families knew each other long before the two got together. The Wissmanns and the Duggars met when the Wissmann family visited the Duggar home over a decade ago, Jana recalled to PEOPLE.

“I remember about 13 years ago when they came to our house and ended up getting snowed in, which is rare in Arkansas,” she said. “I remember playing games and doing puzzles late into the night until the snow melted and they could go home.”

Although Jana and Stephen were not in a romantic relationship at the time, their paths crossed in adulthood and they dated briefly before splitting up, but “kept talking to each other over the years.” They ultimately reunited in early 2024, recognizing their strong connection.

Jana and Stephen were not the only ones who found love thanks to their family friendship – their brother Jeremiah married his sister Hannah in 2022.

After her wedding, Jana plans to move to Nebraska to live with Stephen, where the couple will start a new life together and renovate a house.
