Should Superman continue to wear swimming trunks over his suit?

Now that we’ve taken a closer look at David Corenswet’s suit, we know that the Man of Steel will be wearing his iconic briefs in James Gunn’s Superman movie next year. When Superman was first created in the 1930s, he was based on the strongmen of that era. They regularly wore shorts over their skin-tight suits for modesty. But nearly 100 years later, strongmen are a thing of the past, but Superman still wears his shorts. I think it’s a fitting nod to his origins, but what do you think? Is it time to finally put them away?

Ok, here we go – who should play Doctor Doom in the MCU?

Yes, Marvel has cast Giancarlo Esposito in a secret role – maybe he’s Kang. Maybe he’s Doom. Maybe his Squirrel Girl (the man can do it all). But that being said, who should play Doctor Doom in the MCU? My pick is Alexander Skarsgård – scary when he needs to be, funny when he needs to be, charming, terrifying, imposing, and all the things an MCU Doom would need to be. He’s also around the same age range as RDJ when he took on Tony Stark, tall and muscular enough to physically rival the other Avengers, and just a little bit odd like Benedict Cumberbatch. Since Doom combines the skills and status of Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Black Panther, and Reed Richards, that works for me. And you?

What is Stanley Kubrick’s best film?

It’s like picking the best rose, isn’t it? I won’t deny that I watched The Shining repeatedly and endlessly, or that there’s a cult theory around it. And I also won’t say it would be wrong to say his best film is Barry Lyndon, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Full Metal Jacket, Dr. Strangelove, The Killing, A Clockwork Orange, or any of his six other films (when you think about it, he made so few). But if I had to pick a single film, it would be one of his more conventional films, Paths to Glory. While not as technically brilliant, visionary, or influential as some of his other works, it’s a film with a very sharp point and an even sharper edge — a film with a clear, raw human message that we all need to hear. Sometimes a director’s best work isn’t the most impressive. Sometimes it’s the most necessary. What’s your pick?

Have you ever looked at an actor’s entire filmography? And if so, who was it?

While it’s not uncommon to meet people who have to watch the entire thing when it comes to a TV series or movie franchise, there are also people who have to watch the entire thing when it comes to an actor’s filmography. I personally have seen every movie Christian Bale, Adam Driver, and Daniel Brühl have been in. But I’m curious to know which actors you’ve seen in all the installments, the good AND the bad. Because let’s face it, not every movie has the potential to be rewatched!

Which book needs a film or television adaptation next?

Book adaptations have given us some pretty excellent films and TV series over the years. Like anything, they can hit or miss, but I love seeing variations on books and how they fare on the screen. Book adaptations brought us The Shining, Game of Thrones, Poor Things, and plenty of versions of Frankenstein. It was recently announced that another Grady Hendrix book will be made into an HBO series, and Saltburn’s Emerald Fennell is taking on Wuthering Heights! I’d love to see the TV series adaptation (in talks as early as 2019) of Madeline Miller’s Circe. What book would you like to see adapted into a film or TV series?

What is your favorite Eddie Murphy movie?

My personal favorite Eddie Murphy films are the first two Shrek movies. They may be animated and Donkey is a minor character, but Murphy’s personality and charisma shine so brightly. It’s undoubtedly one of the best roles of his career. However, if I can’t choose a voice role, then I’d have to go with the original Beverly Hills Cop. I remember seeing it for the first time and being surprised at how well the film mixed action and comedy. Unlike some of the action comedies coming out now, the first Beverly Hills Cop doesn’t shy away from being gritty and dark. The humor comes entirely from Murphy’s incredible performance (and of course Bronson Pinchot’s Serge).
